Inspired by Nonna: The Power of Alternative Health for Aging
My grandmother, Nonna, inspired my passion for exploring alternative health solutions for older adults. Watching her face severe pain from arthritis in her lower back and remembering her as a strong, active woman from my childhood was heartbreaking. Growing up, I spent summers with her, filled with energy and joy, making gnocchi and swimming. Now, her resilience shines in different ways, facing pain and aging with grace and courage.
Inspired by her journey, I believe in the power of yoga to enhance quality of life for seniors. It offers mindful movement, connection, and strength, supporting a more fulfilling and resilient aging journey. My hope is that we all have the tools and support to embrace aging with purpose and joy.
Yoga as a Mindfulness Intervention for the Cognitive, Psychological, and Social Needs of Older Adults
As adults age, they face unique challenges that impact both mental and emotional health, often feeling disconnected or burdensome to others. This can lead to depression, anxiety, and even cognitive decline. Traditional care focuses on symptoms, but addressing deeper needs like community and purpose can transform well-being. Research highlights the benefits of group-based therapies, particularly creative and non-verbal activities, which foster belonging and improve resilience.
Woven Wellness offers therapeutic group yoga for older adults, integrating Acceptance Commitment Therapy to enhance mental health and connection. Our adaptable sessions promote well-being, purpose, and community engagement for seniors.
